回首青春，这些年最不想错过的人，一直是你。可我这一次，真的错过你了。影片以游记随笔《青春18×2日本慢车流浪记》为原型。18年前，来自日本的背包客阿美（清原果耶饰）来到了高中生吉米（许光汉饰）打工的店中，两人在同一家店中一同工作度过了一个夏天。吉米渐渐对阿美产生好感，然而阿美将回到日本。面对无法整理心情的吉米，阿美提出了“一个约定”……时光流逝，回到老家的吉米发现了阿美18年前从日本寄来的明信片。初恋的记忆涌现，吉米乘上通往阿美的故乡的列车，开始了独自一人的日本之旅。

封闭守旧的美国小镇闯进了一个神秘女子格蕾斯（妮可•基德曼NicoleKidman饰）。她美丽善良，正在逃避歹徒追杀。镇中的作家汤姆力劝村民留下这个女子，让她暂时在镇里避过难关。然而条件就是格蕾丝要干各种农活来偿还。人们同意了，不久后却发现格蕾丝是一个通缉中的逃犯。大家要把格蕾丝赶走，最后答应，如果她更卖力的干活，才可以在这里逗留。格蕾丝日以继夜的劳作，终难逃过不幸的事情发生。一个镇民在警察搜捕后，强暴了格蕾丝。龌龊的事情拉开了序幕：人们开始随意的污辱她，甚至连汤姆，也揭开了善良的面具，格蕾斯沦为镇上的一条狗，干活，受罪，善良的心也有了渐渐的改变。镇上的人怎么也想不到，这个女子的神秘身世，让此刻的污辱成为了他日的灭顶之灾。

从小就在农村长大的高智淑（朴真熙饰）拥有一段不太快乐的童年记忆，记忆里，身负残疾的父亲酗酒成性，醉后便会对母亲（金海淑饰）暴力相向。让母亲没有想到的是，长大后，从小就被认定以后不会有出息的智淑竟然成为了一名作家，甚至嫁到了大都市首尔。就这样，母亲和女儿开始了人生中最漫长的分离。一转眼五年过去，智淑也成为了一名母亲，直到这时，她才意识到，自己的母亲将自己抚养成人付出了多少心血。为了尽孝，智淑来不及打招呼就回到了久违的老家，在淡淡的哀伤和隐隐的不安之中，母女二人开始了长达三天两夜的“亲密接触”，在这段时间里，智淑能够修复她和母亲之间长久以来淡漠的亲情吗？
