2012年，人类被不知名病毒感染，纽约成为一座空城。RobertNeville（WillSmith饰）是为军方服务的科学家，也是对病毒有免疫力的幸存者。白天，他带着狗Sam在街道上寻找食物，用广播寻找幸存者，在实验室里研究治愈病毒的方法；晚上，他只能躲在屋子里，因为那些感染病毒而没有死亡的人们，成为了“夜魔”只能夜晚出来活动，丧失理智，会攻击所有的人。某天，Sam也感染病毒死去，RobertNeville陷入了前所未有的孤独。当他准备和“夜魔”们同归于尽的时候，另外一个幸存者Anna(AliceBraga饰)救了他。Anna相信山上的隔离区还有幸存者，但是固执的RobertNeville却坚持守在纽约。又一个晚上，“夜魔”攻击RobertNeville的住所，此时他的研究已经获得成功，但是只有坚持到天亮，人类才能得以延存。

桑是一名性工作者，他在泰国清迈通过想象自己在客户的生活中来应对痛苦的现实。他与一名调查政治活动家的警察客户陷入了复杂的关系，尽管他试图作为一名远离家乡的难民建立自己的未来。

落雨之夜，一辆卡车被警方逼停。驾驶室内坐着一名满身伤痕疲惫不堪的女子，可凑近却发现对方竟是个男人。男人的车上拉着上百条狗，种种诡异情况迫使警方将男人带回警局。男人自称名叫道格（卡莱伯·兰德里·琼斯CalebLandryJones饰），在他看来，狗如同家人，对人类有着无与伦比的信赖。他出生于一个暴戾的家庭，父亲驯养用于搏杀取乐的狗，他对这个软弱且同情心泛滥的儿子充满鄙夷，甚至将他关在狗笼里自我反省。轰然一枪截断了父子最后的羁绊，也让道格走上了与狗为伴的不归路。此后的岁月，他品味人世苦辣辛酸，曾经渴望爱情，也曾经试图融入社会。但是最后却发现，这个世界没有容纳他的位置。到头来，只有这群忠贞不二的狗狗，给了他最坚实的支撑和勇气……

孤儿长大的两男一女劫匪，持枪抢劫第五版新发行的货币。好赌男与赌场老板发生火拼，劫匪血洗赌场，女劫匪在追捕中被打死。两男劫匪决定声东击西，抢劫金厂的黄金，被警方追捕击毙。

1996年11月30日公開。全国松竹系劇場にて上映。出崎統監督作品。OVAシリーズの流れを汲む作品で、原作にはない劇場用オリジナルストーリーとして製作したもの。音楽はOVA版KARTE6より参加した川村栄二が担当、主題歌は山根麻衣『InvisibleLove』。本作最大の特徴は、キャラクターも含めた作品そのものの米国風のデザインや、患者が血を吐くシーンや頭をぶつけるシーンなどに使われた、サーモグラフィー切り替えによる演出などである。当時の最新の技術を極限まで用いた演出と、出崎監督特有の「ハーモニー」や「陰影」、「入射光」などもあり、人間の「生死」や「苦悩」をリアルに演出している。なお、2005年末、手塚眞監督によって再び映画化された作品がブラック・ジャックふたりの黒い医者であるが、内容は本作とは全くの別物。なお、前述の2005年度に公開された映画の予告に於いて「初の映画化」と謳っているうえ、一般的なイメージとしてはこちらの映画の方が強いために、本作のイメージは薄れつつある（※公式サイトの豆知識にメディア化作品が記載されているこの作品もそれに記載されているため否定しているわけではない）。ただしDVDレンタルはされているため見ることができる。セルDVDでの発売もされているが、こちらは在庫切れが相次いで入手困難の状況にある。公開当年の1996年の12月、秋田書店からフィルムコミックが発売されている。全2巻。（1巻：ISBN4-253-17328-4、2巻：ISBN4-253-17329-2）1999年末、よみうりテレビ･日本テレビ系列にて地上波TV放送された。2008年12月31日（23時45分-25時30分）TOKYOMXにての地上波局としては異例の、年を跨いでのアニメ作品放映という形で実施された。
