讲述了为了钱、权力、名誉、各自的欲望而开始进行危险交易的三个男人的背叛和阴谋的故事。

乌江历来有“天险”之称，两岸峭壁陡岩，江中滩险流急，明礁暗礁星罗棋布，行船十分困难。1935年，红军来到乌江，国民党军队强迫老船工石长青放船过滩剿杀红军，石长青的徒弟赵志江、王保成合力将满船匪军撞在龙头石上，两人随即参加了红军。解放后，王保成任地区交通局长，带领工人沿江修纤道设牛绞关，但仍没能排除行船过滩的危险。1957年，王保成在带领群众整治航道时炸塌了危崖，堵塞了航道，老工人陶师傅也牺牲了，他为此次工程的失败做了检查。1961年，我国困难时期，暗藏的阶级敌人纠合一批不法小业主扣发治滩物资，九龙滩航运陷入一片混乱。新任交通局党委书记赵志江受上级党委派遣回到九龙滩，协助王保成治滩疏航。两人一起制定了规章制度，整顿了货场和放滩秩序，打击了投机倒把分子。赵志江提出了彻底根治航道，炸礁治滩的意见，对当年的治滩失败做了细致深入的调查研究，消除了王保成的思想顾虑，得到了群众和航道工人的支持。他们冒着生命危险下水探测。暗藏的反革命分子--航管站站长魏升见自己即将暴露，垂死挣扎，扣压了防洪通知，命同伙干黄鳝私自起爆，妄图造成工程的伤亡事故。两人密谋时被滩师古胡子听见，魏升指使干黄鳝杀死古胡子灭口。不料，我民兵早有戒备，干黄鳝当场被捉。魏升打死干黄鳝以掩盖罪行，并以洪水卷走苗族青年航道工春生一事嫁祸赵志江。此时，受伤未死的古胡子赶到现场，真相大白，魏升受到了应有的惩罚。春生也遇救赶回，和大家一起投入了炸滩的战斗。乌江天险从此变成了社会主义的水上通途。

角色演员备注张小琴张杨代表作品《梨花情》静云高瑕代表作品《建国大业》张小山江昊桐代表作品电视剧《我的故乡晋察冀》小琴母亲陈伟奋代表作品《喜耕田的故事》林若翔陆幸----宁宁冯艺茗代表作品《刘邓和他们的战友》《婚前协议》梁医生梁刚代表作品《春桃的战争》小海崔洋----罗明李桢----大山深处，乡村女孩小琴拿到了大学录取通知书，贫困家庭的她却为去上学还是留在家帮助母亲照顾年迈的奶奶和多病的弟弟犯了愁。在母亲斩钉截铁的肯定下，她最终依靠国家助学贷款放心去上学。临走前，弟弟小山将口琴送给了小琴，让她对家有个念想。进入大学后，小琴不敢松懈，一边用功读书，一边绞尽脑汁的在想如何帮衬家里。迫切想挣钱的她，却被无德的小商贩钻了空子，家里给她的生活费也没有了。与此同时，舍友静云因为小琴出生农村，经常对其冷眼相看，然而静云的种种歧视，却被舍友宁宁看在眼里，两人经常为了小琴，展开种种口水战，小琴看在眼里，痛在心里。小琴的勤奋用功和家境，让静云的高中同学也是小琴的同班同学若翔心生爱怜。若翔经常变相的帮助小琴，却被自强的小琴拒之千里。无奈若翔只能通过静云、宁宁、小海、罗明从而给她相应的帮助。小琴的家境被学校老师知道后，老师指引她去学校食堂勤工俭学，这样的机会让小琴欣喜若狂，在她看来这足够帮助母亲减轻负担。可噩耗接踵而至，弟弟小山突然晕倒了，小琴赶回家中，小山昏睡在炕头，她执意要带小山来城里检查病因，母亲又由于要照顾卧床的奶奶而无法脱身，只能让小琴独自带着小山前往城里。经过医院层层检查，最终小山被确诊为白血球粘液缺乏症也就是俗称的白血病，这个噩耗，无论对于哪个家庭都是毁灭性的，更何况像小琴这种家境，但坚强的小琴并没有被生活打倒，她瞒着母亲，独自担起了给小山治病的重担，干起了男人都很吃力的送水工，还好收入还不错，可如此的收入也无法填补小山巨额的医药费。消息传到了学校，大家都被小琴自强不息所感染，以若翔为首的同学们为小山进行了募捐，募捐现场还走来了若翔的母亲。静云在经历了被人绑架而被小琴搭救后，对小琴的看法发生了转变，她悔恨自己以前对小琴的种种歧视，拿出了自己积攒的全部费用，送去医院给小山治病，她要重新开始自己的生活，要像小琴一样活得有价值。若翔一如既往的默默呆在小琴身边，总在第一时间给予小琴帮助，小琴也从原来的拒人千里到后来的慢慢接受，因为她太需要个肩膀靠一靠了。在众多好心人的帮助下，小山的病情得以康复，小琴拉着小山踏上了回家的列车，车上传来了悠扬的琴声。四年后，绵绵大山深处，小琴和教育局其他同事一起为即将高考的学生办理助学贷款
